Women's club hockey begins ACHA National Championship bid tomorrow

Miami women's club ice hockey will compete for the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Championship beginning on Wednesday, March 15. The No. 3 RedHawks will face No. 6 Grand Valley State University at 2 p.m. at the Chiller Easton Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

If the 'Hawks can best the Lakers in the three-game series, they'll play in the semifinals in the afternoon on Saturday, March 18. If they win the semifinals, they will play in the championship game on Sunday, March 19 at the Ice Haus in downtown Columbus.

The RedHawks are 19-5-2 on the season and are coming off a come from behind victory over Michigan State on February 26. Miami mounted a whirlwind comeback in the final 10 minutes of the third period, tied the game 3-3 and then won 4-3 in quadruple overtime. The win made Miami Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA) D1 playoff champions and automatically sent the team to Columbus.

GVSU is 15-7-4 on the season and lost their regional matchup to Michigan State days before MSU would go on to lose to the RedHawks.

The last time Miami and GVSU met, it was last year's ACHA championship game and the RedHawks would win 3-2 in overtime.

The RedHawks have been the ACHA National Champions in 2014 and in 2016 and are looking to continue the season's success on the national stage.

The week and weekend's games will be broadcast on golivesportscast.com.
