Tech Tip | MU-WIRELESS update scheduled for December 21

Randy Hollowell, IT Services

On Wednesday, December 21, the MU-WIRELESS network server security certificates will change from Global Sign Root CA to AddTrust External CA Root.  Changing the certificates will provide Miami with a significant cost savings, with no impact to the security of our network.

So, how will this change affect me as a user?

This certificate switch will require some minor changes to your computer's wireless settings.

  • For Mac OS and handheld devices, choose "accept" in the warning window when you connect to MU-WIRELESS to update your certificate. The instructions are located in IT Help. Note: There will be a prompt for an admin/user password authentication. If your machine is managed by a local support representative, they will need to enter the password to authorize the certificate change.
  • For Windows Vista or Windows 7 users, run the wireless configuration tool that displays when you connect to MU-WIRELESS.  This will make the change for you. The instructions are located in IT Help.
  • For Windows XP users, you will have to check the "AddTrust External CA Root" box manually.  The instructions are located in IT Help.

If you have problems updating your laptop or mobile device, please contact the IT Services Support Desk at ithelp@muohio.edu or 513.529.7900.  Also, follow us on Facebook at Information Technology Services at Miami University.

IT Services would also like to wish all faculty, staff, students, alumni, and families a healthy and happy holiday season.
