Miami University collected $1.9 million during the 2023-2024 academic year from parking permit sales and citation fines, according to the Miami University Police Department (MUPD). In 2023, however, the City of Oxford collected only $980,000 from metered parking and citations.
In 2021, the Student Success Center approached Nancy Parkinson and the Miami University nutrition department about starting a food pantry. The Culinary Nutrition Depot Food Pick List, run by Parkinson and nutrition students, offers free meal fundamentals and small kitchen equipment for any enrolled Miami student.
Long breaks between paychecks, qualifying for the Talawanda Oxford Pantry and Social Services (TOPSS) and working odd jobs are a reality for many Miami University graduate students during summer break.
