For Maggie, it all started with a bet.
One application for Miami … Merged was very particular about something rather specific.
On Tuesday nights, long past when most Miamians have gone home for the day, an eclectic group of students meet in the engineering building. They’re not there for a study group or to catch up on homework. They’re there to build a race car.
“Miami … Merged” was created as a chance for Miami University students to meet new people beyond dating apps and hook-up culture. Participants are matched up from a pool of applicants based on common interests.

The O’Neils decided to turn their idea into a reality when they realized that there were no baby books about Miami University on the market.

At 11 a.m. on a cold, drizzly Saturday morning, Amanda and Jack went on their first date at the Oxford farmers’ market. They spent the morning and early afternoon drinking apple cider and buying stickers and croissants at different booths while walking around.
When Katie, a sophomore nursing major, signed up for “Miami … Merged,” her expectations weren’t high. She just wanted to have fun and meet new people. After not going on a real date since high school, she was ready to get back out there.
