Oxford’s City Council approved new tobacco licensing regulations and several other key initiatives in their Oct. 15 meeting. The updates come two years after the initial moratorium regulating tobacco retailers.
At its Oct. 1 meeting, Oxford’s City Council declared Oct. 9 as Ageism Awareness Day and Oct. 1 as Caroline Scott Harrison Day. Caroline Scott Harrison was the first lady to President Benjamin Harrison and Oxford Community Arts Center's most famous graduate.
Oxford City Council meeting included a discussion on alleyways at its Sept. 4 meeting. Stormwater issues and the difficulty for emergency vehicles access in alleys, alongside providing naming signage for alleys was deemed important by councilors. They also discussed the incorporation of stormwater adjustments in the code.
At Oxford city council’s May 21 meeting, a resolution was discussed for a fire and EMS property tax levy to exceed the 1% levy limit. The levy would generate $1,284,681 for these services. The result is a $182 increase on a $200,000 home from a 0.26% tax on assessed property values.

Ramadan Mubarak means “Blessed Ramadan.” It’s a month of daily fasting for Muslims all around the world, including many at Miami University. Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, so it shifts 10 days earlier each year. This year, Ramadan started on March 11 and ends April 10.
