McCarthy-Creber violated sanction

The McCarthy-Creber campaign violated their Election Committee sanctions by campaigning on March 13-14. According to sources close to the topic, the Election Committee became aware of this infraction on March 30, but denied to act -- voting 5-3 against elevating the violation, which could result in another sanction on campaigning, or even full disqualification.

Defining Our Drinking Problem

Over the past month and a half, The Student has asked dozens of students, administrators and Oxford residents the same question: "How do you define Miami's drinking culture?" Over the next few weeks, our coverage, both in print and in the form of a documentary (released on our website April 14) will explore the ways in which alcohol is regarded and consumed by Miami students. Our reporting will address the societal, historical and mental health-related issues that surround drinking in Oxford.

Seventh sexual assault of semester reported

A female student reported last Friday, March 31, that she was sexually assaulted by a known male. This marks the seventh reported sexual assault at Miami University during the spring 2017 semester. One sexual assault was reported in the month of March, as well as one sexual imposition incident. Five sexual assaults were reported during February.

After feedback, honors students still to get priority registration

CORRECTION Tuesday 4/4 9 a.m.: Students currently being recruited for Miami's University Honors Program (the Class of 2021, entering in fall 2017) will receive the same registration privileges as current Honors students. The Class of 2022 (entering in fall 2018), not the Class of 2021, will experience the planned changes to Honors registration.

Fire destroyed MU students' house

A fire destroyed a home in Oxford last week on Wednesday, March 22. Since the fire occurred over spring break, the residents -- all Miami students who were renting the property -- were not home at the time and no one was injured, but the fire left the home a total loss, officials said.

OPD warns of 'dangerous batch' of cocaine after two overdoses

Two non-student Ohio residents died on Saturday, likely due to an overdose on a "particularly dangerous batch" of cocaine in Oxford, though no cause of death has been released yet. The Oxford Police Department believes that this batch of cocaine may be laced with another substance, but it's unclear what.

Green Beer Day goes on with amped-up police presence

Green Beer Day, Miami's annual 24-hour party binge, occurred again this year. Students donned commemorative t-shirts, trekked Uptown and downed green alcohol and bagels. From 2 a.m. on March 16 to 2 a.m. on March 17, the OPD cited 66 total offenses.
