The November presidential election is nearly here. Miami University students may be voting early, sending in absentee ballots or preparing to go vote on election day. However, being on a college campus is not always convenient when it comes to voting. Throughout election history, the term “disenfranchised” has been used to describe people without the right to vote. Often, it references people who are legally unable to vote, but it has since expanded to include people who face obstacles preventing their ability to vote.


The upcoming election has swept through Miami's campus, dominating TV, social media and conversations amongst students.

United States Senate Race: Sherrod Brown vs. Bernie Moreno

This year, Ohioans have the opportunity to elect a new senator to represent them nationwide. Whoever is elected will serve a six-year term in the United States Senate. The candidates are incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown, who has held this seat since 2007, and Republican Bernie Moreno, a businessman and politician who beat Frank LaRose and Matt Dolan in the Republican primary election.

3 seats open for the Ohio State Supreme Court

Ohio holds a series of partisan elections to select its State Supreme Court justices. Three of the seven seats on the court are up for election this November. Six candidates are running: three Democrats and three Republicans. 


Miami University students had the opportunity to register to vote and request an absentee ballot outside of the Armstrong Student Center up until Oct. 8, which can be returned in person or by mail up until Nov. at 7:30 p.m.

Voter scams impact absentee ballot voting across Ohio

With the November election rapidly approaching, Ohio residents have already begun receiving absentee ballots through the mail. The Butler County Board of Elections began sending ballots on Oct. 8, which can be returned anytime between now and 7:30 p.m. on election day. 


If Issue 10 passes, the library's levy will renew for another year.

Levies on the Nov. 5 ballot affecting the Oxford community

This election cycle, The Butler County ballot has 11 different tax levies on it. They range from funding for different Butler County school districts to fire, police and other public service levies. The primary tax levies that affect the Oxford community are Issue 2, Issue 10 and Issue 12 – levies that fund services directly used by Miami University students.

JANUS Forum panelists discuss upcoming election, future of the two-party system

Twice a year, the JANUS Forum brings two panelists from opposite sides of the political spectrum to Miami University’s campus to discuss a topic relevant to students and the broader community. This semester, the organization brought two former members of the U.S. House of Representatives, Susan Brooks and Stephanie Murphy, to speak on the future of the two-party system.

New mural painting class looks to leave its mark on Newport

 In a class that goes far beyond the halls of Miami University’s Art Building, students hunch over their workspaces, collaborating on a semester-long project. The end goal? Create a mural for Newport on the Levee, a bustling entertainment hub across the river from Cincinnati.

Miami Alumnus Gowtham Raj Veeraswamy Premkumar, a recent graduate with a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering, is no stranger to these technological advances.
