When the Miami University RedHawks and University of Toledo Rockets first faced each other in the Mid-American Conference championship of 2004, the attendance reached 22,138. Though the RedHawks held the lead for most of the game, the Rockets came back and won 35-27.

When Camber Hayes joined Miami University in 2020, she made her presence known instantly: She was made a captain of the Miami soccer team in her first year and recorded two goals and 14 assists in her career. Off the field, Hayes has received various academic accolades. Last spring, she received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar Award, which is awarded to athletes who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 and are active in their campus and community.

The Miami University men’s basketball team was in dire need of players after the 2022-23 basketball season. Only five guys returned to play from last year: Julian Lewis, Ryan Mabrey, Anderson Mirambeaux, Jaquel Morris and walk-on Eli Yofan. With many positions left empty, head coach Travis Steele recruited several players in the transfer portal as well as five first-years, including center Reece Potter.

The 2022-23 season for Miami University hockey was plagued with inconsistencies and disappointment. Finishing with a record of 8-24-4, the RedHawks were frustrated with their overall performance. The program hasn’t had a winning season since 2015.

Over Labor Day weekend, the RedHawks’ golf team traveled to Michigan to compete in the Island Resort Intercollegiate. The RedHawks, ranked 145th in the country, played against other golf programs from around the country, including Michigan (130), Illinois State (109), Coastal Carolina (105) and North Texas (103).

When Miami’s women’s soccer team made a Mid-American Conference tournament appearance last year, it was the first in eight years. Bolstered by eight seniors, the 2022-23 team dealt with plenty of adversity, but Head Coach Courtney Sirman says the leadership those seniors offered was pivotal to their success.

When Travis Steele got hired to be Miami University’s 28th head men’s basketball coach in March 2022, RedHawk fans were most excited about his recruiting chops. Steele recruited two national top-twenty classes in four years at his last head coaching job, just down the road at Xavier.

The Miami Redhawks kicked off the 2022 football season on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 3. Expectations were high following a 7-6 season and a second-place finish in the Mid-American East Conference last year. Quarterback Brett Gabbert threw for 2,648 yards and 26 touchdowns in the 2021 season, and he was looking to build on that momentum for the upcoming season.
