The 2024 softball MAC championship is here, and the Miami University RedHawks claim the No. 1 seed. The RedHawks were 45-7 (26-1 in conference play) in the regular season and will face the No. 4 University of Toledo Rockets (26-21, 15-10 in MAC play) today at noon at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.

On Dec. 8, 1888, Miami University and the University of Cincinnati played the first college football game in the state of Ohio. If on Dec. 8, 1888, the weather had been like it was on the day of the Cure Bowl in Orlando last month, there would have been no 127th Battle for the Victory Bell for the RedHawks to finally win in 2023. They would have surely scrapped the whole thing.

In the 2022 fiscal year, Miami University spent twice as much money on men’s sports than on women’s sports, according to financial reports submitted by Miami to the NCAA. Miami reported operating expenses of nearly $19 million on the men’s side of athletics compared to less than $9.5 million on the women’s side.
