FAM statement on regional restructuring: The liberal arts are the beating heart of the polytechnic

Miami University management’s decision to rebrand Miami Regionals as a Polytechnic took regional faculty and students by surprise. This top-down decision by the Board of Trustees is now being hastily implemented through a two-month restructuring process that will radically transform our university and our students’ education.

Miami University professors and librarians love what we do: helping students grow to their potential and exposing them to new knowledge and world-changing ideas. In the last few years, faculty and librarians at Miami have faced pressures that make it harder for us to do our jobs well: increased class sizes, extra service demands and stressful calls for reinventing, restructuring and closing down academic programs.
