Reggie Johnson to transfer

Tom Downey, Sports Editor

The Miami University men's basketball team has lost another player. Sophomore guard Reggie Johnson has left the program and will transfer.

Johnson was the team's second leading scorer, averaging 11.8 points per game. He led the team in scoring three times this season, putting up at least 21 points in all three games. Johnson also contributed 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. Johnson shot 37.8 percent from the field and 17.6 percent from three-point range through nine games.

Johnson is the eighth player to leave Miami since head coach John Cooper was hired.

Johnson joins former RedHawks Brian Sullivan (Davidson), Jon Harris (Cleveland State) and Jared Tadlock (Fort Hays State) as players who transferred to another school.

Allen Roberts (Penn State) and Drew McGhee (Kennesaw State) completed their undergraduate degrees at Miami and used their final year of eligibility at other schools to pursue graduate degrees.

Josh Sewell left the program at the end of last year, but remained at Miami to take classes. Blake McLimans, a graduate transfer from Michigan, left the program earlier this season because of an illness in his family.

Miami did not offer a reason for Johnson's transfer.

"It was very difficult to make this decision because of my relationship with my teammates and the staff, but sometimes things just don't work out and I realized that and decided to transfer," Johnson told Chicago Hoops, who first reported the news.

The loss of Johnson hurts Miami's already thin depth. Miami is down to just six scholarship players that have appeared in games this season. Redshirt senior forward Bill Edwards has yet to play this season, as he is recovering from a knee injury. There is no timetable for his return.

Sophomore guard Willie Moore is now eligible to play, as the nine-game suspension he received earlier this year is over.

Guard Eric Washington will not be eligible to play until next season, as he is sitting out a season per NCAA rules.
