The Miami University football team fell to 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), as Bowling Green State University (BG) (4-3, 2-1 MAC) defeated the Red and White 37-12. The 'Hawks fall to 3-4 on the season, as their inability to run the ball or stop the run continues to cost them.
"We let the game get out of hand," junior linebacker Chris Wade said. "We lost pretty badly and made a lot of mistakes."
The RedHawks were only able to pick up three net yards on 20 rushes. Redshirt sophomore tailback Robert Williams III was the team's leading rusher, picking up 25 yards on five carries.
BG entered the game averaging just over 159 yards per game rushing, but against the Red and White the Falcons ran for 251 yards and two scores on 44 attempts. Sophomore running back Anthon Samuel did most of the damage, picking up 171 yards on 21 rushes.
"Mostly it is just missed tackles," Wade said. "If you look at the game film, the defender gets to him at the line of scrimmage."
BG redshirt junior quarterback Matt Schilz outplayed redshirt senior quarterback Zac Dysert in the rain Saturday, as Schilz completed 20 of 27 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns and one pick. Dysert was 17 for 31 for 198 yards, one touchdown and two picks.
Dysert is now 60th on the all-time NCAA passing yards list, passing current NFL players Andy Dalton and Robert Griffin III with his game against Bowling Green. He is currently eighth among MAC players.
The RedHawks defense gave up 486 yards of total offense to BG, who came into the game averaging just less than 384 yards. However, the 'Hawks entered the game giving up over 500 yards of offense per game.
The Red and White finished the game with only 256 yards of offense, despite entering the game averaging nearly 400 yards.
Junior wide receiver Nick Harwell had an impressive game, catching seven balls for 117 yards. He led all receivers in both yards and receptions.
Senior wide receiver Andy Cruse had the RedHawks only touchdown and finished the game with seven grabs for 54 yards.

For the first time in three games, the Red and White recorded a sack as redshirt senior defensive lineman Mike Johns picked up his first sack on the year. The 'Hawks now have a mere six sacks in seven games.
Chris Wade once again lead the RedHawks with a game high 12 tackles. It is the sixth straight game that Wade has recorded double-digit tackles.
"Personally, I feel like I'm reaching my individual goals," Wade said. "But the most important goal is to win a MAC title and that is still in sight."
True freshman running back Jamire Westbrook and sophomore wide receiver Dawan Scott both did not play against BG.
True freshman kicker Kaleb Patterson accounted for all six of Miami's points in the first half, hitting a 36-yard field goal and one from 44 yards.
The RedHawks trialed 17-6 entering the second half, and managed to trim it to 17-12 after Dysert found Cruse for a two-yard score. However, an attempted two point conversion failed and the RedHawks never scored again as BG rattled off 20 unanswered points.
The RedHawks do not play again until they host Ohio University during Family Weekend Oct. 27.
