The Miami University field hockey team travels to Louisville, Ky., Saturday to seek a win against a nationally ranked Louisville Cardinal team.

After a rough opening weekend in Virginia, in which the RedHawks lost to nationally ranked University of Virginia and a tough team in Virginia Commonwealth, the Red and White head into Louisville looking for their first win of the 2009 campaign.

After an early lead against the VCU Rams, Miami fell 2-1 on a late goal by a Rams player.Against Virginia, Miami fell 7-0, despite a great second half against the Cavaliers. Although both games fell in the loss column for the 'Hawks, they took a lot out of their performance that they put into practice this week.

"I think that we did not click well on the field over the weekend," senior back Katie Brightwell said. "We have practiced a lot on working together on the field, and hopefully we can take that in to the game against Louisville."

Miami went 14-7 overall last season and 7-3 in the MAC conference.

After the game with Louisville, the RedHawks return to Oxford to play their first home games of the season against MAC foe Central Michigan University and the Big Ten conference's Northwestern University.

"We are focused on winning all of our home games this season," senior midfielder Maggie Marcum said. "We are looking forward to these games because we get to play our first MAC game against Central Michigan here. Hopefully we can play to our potential and come out on top."

The 'Hawks return nine letter winners from last year's team, and four of those are seniors. It is the seniors' job this year to look over the team and make sure that everything is going smoothly.

"Keeping the unity of our team is something that we need to do as seniors," Brightwell said. "As seniors, we can make sure that we don't have any rips in our team, and we can get together with the younger players and make sure that everybody is meshing well."

The Central Michigan begins at 3 p.m Sept. 11, and the game against Northwestern at 1 p.m., Sept. 13.
