Student jumps hospital roof and loses wallet

Nov. 19, around 10:40 a.m., the Oxford Police were dispatched to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in reference to a suspect trespassing the roof of the hospital and knocking over the HVAC exhaust duct. The officer met with the Director of Building Services who said it appeared someone had been on the hospital roof jumping from the main roof to the lower roof knocking over the HVAC duct. The Director said he thought the suspect left his wallet on the roof. The wallet was found near the damaged duct and the officer found the identification of junior Lee Mondini, according to OPD. He contacted Mondini and asked him to come to the OPD to speak with him. Around 3:30 p.m. the same day, Mondini arrived at the station, was read his Miranda Rights, and agreed to speak without a lawyer, according to OPD. He admitted to being on the hospital roof on Oct. 6 around 2 a.m. and said instead of going around the hospital he decided to go over it, according to OPD. Mondini was given citation for criminal mischief and criminal trespass and then was released, according to OPD.

Burglar steals laptop from home during break

Sunday Nov. 29, a resident returned to her Elm Street home to find that it had been burglarized over Thanksgiving break. Oxford Police officers met with the resident who told him that the burglary had occurred sometime between 12 p.m. Wed. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The burglar was able to gain entry into bedrooms inside the home, some forcibly, according to OPD. A window appeared to be broken but it is not believed that access was gained through that window. A laptop was taken from the residence.

Victim reports jewelry stolen from bedroom

Oxford Police Department (OPD) met with the victim of a burglary Nov. 29. The victim told officers that over the break her home had been entered and property was stolen from a second floor bedroom after the door had been forcibly opened, according to OPD. Among the stolen property is a jewelry box containing diamond earrings, amethyst earrings, aquamarine earrings, a silver bracelet and a pearl necklace. According to OPD, it appears access into the residence was gained by breaking and entering through a basement window.

FYI reports cash stolen on multiple occassions

Tuesday Nov. 27, the general manager of FYI Tasty Treats, 26 W. High St., reported a series of thefts, with the most recent occurring over Thanksgiving break. He reported the theft to OPD after noticing he was missing $220 after Thanksgiving break. Video surveillance reveals a female breaking and entering the business early Monday morning before the store's usual business hours, according to OPD. The manager was able to identify and name the suspect seen in the video, according to OPD. Two other offenses of theft were reported from earlier in the month, from which an additional $160 was taken. The case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
