Opinion | Miami NROTC Birthday Run raises support for non-profit organizations

Matthew M. Odgers, odgersmm@muohio.edu

My name is Matthew Odgers and I am a representative for the Miami University Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps unit with news of an upcoming event we will be hosting. Each year, the United States Navy and Marine Corps take great pride in their birthdays, and do well to make it known across the globe. Accordingly, the Miami NROTC unit hosts an annual fundraiser to gain awareness for the event, as well as select a charitable foundation to which we donate all proceeds. This year, we will be hosting the 236th Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Run to raise money for the Fallen Patriot Fund (http://www.fallenpatriotfund.org/) and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (http://www.nmcrs.org/). These are two non-profit charitable organizations which we would like to assist during the current period of conflict.

In order to assist these foundations to our greatest extent, we would like to pass on knowledge of this event to all members of the Naval Service (past and present) located in or near Oxford. We try to gain as much local support for these events as possible and being able to invite Oxford community members would truly assist us in our celebration.
