The most recent of a number of new businesses opening uptown is a combination coffee house and brewpub at 107 E. Church St.
It will provide a relaxed study environment during the day and a sophisticated hangout at night.
Named Quarter Gastropub and Brewery, the venture will serve coffee, quick lunches and affordable dinners along with its own house-brewed beers.
Quarter will house a café with a broad used book collection and games as an alternative for uptown studying.
At night, owners hope to host live music and entertainment for those who want to avoid the loud bar scene.
Alan Kyger, economic development director for the City of Oxford says owners Brandon Ney, Christopher Hensey and Janet Holmes hope to provide a more relaxed alternative to the typical nightlife in Oxford.
Some students at Miami are excited at the idea of a different kind of bar uptown to visit at night.
Miami University senior Phil Orlando felt that a microbrewery would fit in well with the style in Oxford.
"I like the idea of quiet, study-esque lunch then a more drinking atmosphere during the night," Orlando said.
Kyger said the brewpub will fill a gap left by the A-List, a relaxed bar at which the owners of Quarter once worked before it was replaced by Sushi Nara.
Miami junior Jimmy Jordan is also exited about the new venture and a unique drinking atmosphere.
"It sounds like a cool spot to hang out and meet up with people," Jordan said. "Sometimes I would like to go out and get drinks but I don't want a big party atmosphere.".
