Miami Field Hockey hosts Kent State

The Miami University field hockey team hosts Kent State University Saturday in a Mid-American Conference matchup.

Senior back Gabby Goldach said the game against Kent (5-8, 2-0 MAC) is the most important game of their season so far.

"Basically we have to win the rest of our games," Goldach said. "The top four teams go to the MAC Tournament so this weekend will be huge for us."

The RedHawks (4-10, 2-1 MAC) are coming off a 3-1 loss against Central Michigan University as well as a 3-1 loss against the University of Iowa.

"We have to come out with a win," Goldach said. "It puts a little bit of pressure on us."

Senior back Ali Froede said a win would propel them forward.

"This game is crucial," Froede said. " We need to win for our moral. If we win it will set us up to be in a good position for the MAC Tournament."

Sophomore goaltender Alyssa Xavier, has an almost identical save percentage as Kent State sophomore goaltender Andrea Rinehart. Xaver holds a slim lead, with a 67.3 save percentage to Rinehart's 66.7.

"Kent is always a huge rival," Goldach said. "They have a very good team."

The RedHawks are focused on improving and learning from their mistakes as they face Kent.

"The team who has more heart is the team that wins," Froede said. "That's what we were lacking in the Central game."

The RedHawks face-off against the Golden Flashes noon Saturday.
