Library resources need to be supported by community

John Bailer, baileraj@muohio.edu

Lane Library is one of the few places that I visit at least once each week throughout the year. It started when I was taking my baby girl (now 23) to story time after I first moved to Oxford. It continued through the years when my kids were looking up books for the school RAH (reading at home) program and when I was picking up scouts from meetings held in the library meeting rooms. Over the years, the library has provided the opportunity for me to discover new authors (check out the Serge Storms adventures of Tim Dorsey or anything by Christopher Moore or Neil Gaiman) and to keep up with the work of favorites (check out the mysteries of A. C. Baantjer or Stuart Kaminsky). It now provides a source of audiobooks for chauffeuring trips with kids, books for evening reading and DVDs for viewing at the end of a busy day or week.

The recent financial challenges have hurt many organizations, including our gem of a local library. I was sorry to see the impact on the library staff and the restriction on hours of operation. I can't imagine the even greater disruption if more funds are cut from our library's operating budget. That is why I am asking you to join me in supporting the levy for Lane Library. Our community enjoys a special resource, a resource that I believe is well worth preserving. Please join me in voting yes for our local libraries.
