Sport: Golf Year: Senior Hometown: Burton, Ohio

Katie Giovinale (KG): How did you get into golf? Craig Voorhees (CV): On Father's Day when I was 2 years old, my dad took me to the course with a set of plastic clubs. We've played every Father's Day since.

(KG): What were some golf honors and accomplishments before coming to Miami University? (CV): Junior year of high school I was conference MVP. Senior year I was News Herald Player of the Year, First Team All Ohio and finished third at the state tournament. I won a number of summer tournaments throughout high school.

(KG): What are some of your golf honors and accomplishments at Miami? (CV): The past two years I've qualified for the Amateur Public Links in Chicago and Denver and made it to match play both times. The winner gets to go to the masters, but I'll have to wait until next year for that.

(KG): Best you've ever shot? (CV): I've shot 65 a few times - once at Indian Ridge here in Oxford.

(KG): Favorite thing about golf? (CV): My favorite thing about golf is twofold. I am lucky enough to play competitively for Miami. I love the pressure and adrenaline that comes with playing in tournaments. I also love to play with my friends just to mess around. It's fun both ways.

(KG): Favorite thing about being a student-athlete? (CV): My favorite part is simply being a part of Miami athletics and being a part of the tradition and the culture and sharing the goals and dreams of winning a championship with every other athlete. All the Adidas stuff isn't bad either.

(KG): Hardest part about being a student-athlete? (CV): Long practices and missing class for tournaments. Long practices don't leave much time for homework at night, especially if your favorite show is on, too. Five of our tournaments this fall are on Mondays and Tuesdays so that's 10 days of missed class at least. That's good and bad depending which way you want to look at it.

(KG): What's your major, and what do you plan to do with it? (CV): I'm a finance major, but I don't plan on doing anything with it. If professional golf doesn't work out then I'll be a financial adviser and use golfing with clients as an excuse to get out of the office.

(KG): Hobbies other than golf? (CV): I'll play any sport except bowling. I can't bowl. Other than sports, no.

(KG): Favorite part about Miami? (CV): Martin Dining Hall after morning workouts. Doesn't get any better than that.

(KG): Any superstitions or things you do before you golf? (CV): I like to listen to Jordin Sparks or Vanessa Carlton before every round.

(KG): Pro golfers you admire? (CV): Brad Adamonis. He's a Miami grad that's playing well on the PGA Tour. I've never actually met him, but he was nice enough to come to our fundraiser last summer, and I've only heard nice things about him. My goal is to follow in his footsteps.

(KG): Goals for the season? (CV): Win the MAC and qualify for the NCAA tournament.

(KG): Any advice for other golfers out there?(CV): Keep your head down.
