Update: Quarterbacks coach Mike Bath has been named interim head coach by Sayler. He will remain in that role for the rest of the year.

Miami University has fired football head coach Don Treadwell, effective immediately.

Athletic Director David Sayler announced the move Sunday; just one day after Miami lost 21-9 to Central Michigan University to fall to 0-5 on the season.

"I have decided to make a change in our football leadership now in hopes of seeing improved performance for the rest of the season," Sayler said in a press release. "Miami University takes the interest of our student-athletes seriously and this decision is the result of the past nine months since I've been on the job. Don is a great man, nobody can disagree with that, but I felt a change was needed immediately in the direction of the program. That direction involves making our program relevant again and restoring pride that should accompany being the all-time winningest program in the MAC."

Treadwell went 8-21 during his tenure at Miami and had two years remaining on his contact that paid him roughly $400,000 per year.

Offensive coordinator John Klacik was also fired.
