Chuck Martin hires three assistants

Tom Downey, Sports Editor

Miami University head football coach Chuck Martin has hired George Barnett, Eric Koehler and Pat Walsh as assistants.

Barnett and Koehler will serve as co-offensive coordinators. Barnett will be the offensive line coach, Koehler will be the quarterbacks coach and Walsh will be the tight ends coach.

Barnett and Koehler both come to Miami from Illinois State University. Barnett was the offensive coordinator for the Redbirds last year, after serving as running game coordinator and offensive line coach for three years.

He has coached the offensive line at several stops, including Grand Valley State University, for 15 years. Koehler was the quarterbacks coach for Illinois State last season. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator at Grand Valley State from 2008 to 2012. He also led Wartburg College, a Division-III school, to a 16-4 record in his two years as head coach.

Welsh was a graduate assistant at Notre Dame for two years and worked with the offensive line. He also coached quarterbacks for a year at Wittenberg College and was a defensive assistant at Grand Valley State.

All three coaches have previously worked with Martin.
