Board of trustees recommends 3 percent tuition increase

Amelia Carpenter, Features Editor

Miami University's board of trustees finance and audit committee recommended a 3 percent increase in tuition for both in-state and out-of-state undergraduates to the board of trustees June 11.

The board will discuss whether to finalize the recommended 3 percent tuition increase at the June 25 meeting.

Miami's vice president for finance and business services David Creamer said the council also recommended the university budget as presented to the Board June 11.

Creamer said there is site and utility work that needs to be done for the Bicentennial Student Center (BSC) before the building project can continue. Creamer said the board approved proceeding once fundraising for the BSC has reached $12.5 million. The Office of Advancement of Research and Scholarship was unavailable for comment on how much has been donated at this time. Creamer said there is an increased donor interest and gift opportunities being discussed for the BSC.

Some housing projects to begin next summer were discussed that will be spelled out at the June 25 meeting.
