Librarians Union and Miami reach tentative contract agreement

The Miami Librarians Union reached a tentative contract with university administration on Feb. 25, one day after the Faculty Union.

The agreement included wage increases of just more than 7% over the course of the contract year, according to the press release.

“We’ve all been putting a lot of hard work and effort into this,” said Rachel Makarowski, alternate lead negotiator for the librarian unit. “We’re really hopeful that this will create better working conditions for our librarians, but will also create better student learning conditions.”

This agreement assures many of the same protections as the Faculty’s contract, which will ultimately provide more stability for librarians.

Similarly to the Faculty Union, the next step is for the Board of Trustees to ratify the tentative contract.

“We are ready to move on to the next chapter and start our life as a union,” Makarowski said. “Having this contract in place is incredibly fulfilling as a member of the negotiating team. I fully expect the Board of Trustees to ratify both contracts.”
