The Miami University RedHawks hoopers will host a doubleheader Battle of the Bricks against the Ohio University Bobcats this afternoon at Millett Hall to celebrate One Miami Day.
The women’s basketball team (11-8, 4-5 in conference play) welcomes the Bobcats (4-15, 2-7 in conference play) at 1 p.m. to start the doubleheader.
The RedHawks are coming off their second-straight loss against the University of Toledo Rockets on Jan. 29. Miami dropped below .500 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play for the first time this season.
After Toledo jumped to a 36-25 lead at half, the RedHawks mounted a comeback, and a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Enjulina Gonzalez closed the gap to 48-45 going into the final 10 minutes.
Graduate student guard Maya Chandler briefly brought Miami up 51-50, but the Rockets stifled the comeback in the fourth quarter and ultimately handed the RedHawks a 64-59 defeat.
Gonzalez played her 14th game in a row with double-figure points (19). First-year guard Tamar Singer scored a season-high 14 points, shooting 6-12 on field goals.
Through the conference slate so far, Gonzalez and Chandler have been Miami’s leading scorers, with 158 and 107 points respectively. Sophomore forward Amber Tretter closely follows with 99 points while leading the team with 73 rebounds.
The Bobcats enter this weekend’s matchup coming off a loss to the Ball State University Cardinals. Ohio dropped to 11th in the MAC ahead of the Eastern Michigan University Eagles, whom the Bobcats defeated right before the Ball State matchup.
Graduate student guard Anyssa Jones played her best game of the season against Ball State, putting up 25 points, including four 3-pointers, and nine rebounds.
Senior guards Kate Dennis and Kennedi Watkins each contributed 12 points against the Cardinals. Watkins’ 267 points this season leads the Bobcats and places her as the eighth-highest scorer in the MAC.
Ohio’s second-highest scorer, Bailey Tabeling (237), leads the roster with 42 3-pointers. The sophomore guard averages 2.2 3-pointers per game, the sixth-highest in the conference.
After starting their MAC slate 1-1, the Bobcats dropped five-straight games and out of the top 10 in the conference. They ended their losing streak against the Eagles on Jan. 25, but the defeat to the Cardinals held them to No. 11 spot in the MAC.

Miami closed out its 2023-24 regular season with a win against Ohio last March. The RedHawks held a 33-17 going into the third quarter, and they kept the Bobcats out of reach to finish the season on a high note with a 68-64 victory.
Shortly after the 1 p.m. matchup concludes, the RedHawks men’s basketball team (15-5, 7-1 in conference play) will meet the Bobcats (11-9, 5-3 in conference play) for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
Miami responded to its first conference loss against the University of Akron Zips with a victory against the Eastern Michigan University Eagles on Jan. 28. The RedHawks’ 7-1 standing marks the team’s best start through eight weeks since the 1998-99 season.
Six players scored in the double-digits against Eastern Michigan, the fourth time the RedHawks have done so this season. Junior forward Antwone Woolfolk put up a season-high 21 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double with the Red and White.
Junior guard Peter Suder has proven to be a consistent threat to conference opponents, leading Miami with 112 points. He and redshirt sophomore wing Kam Craft crack the top 10 in the MAC with 287 and 288 total points respectively.
The RedHawks have also relied on redshirt first-year wing Brant Byers in 2025. After scoring 64 points in the non-conference slate, Byers has put up double-digit numbers in seven of Miami’s eight MAC matchups. His 102 points in conference play is third-most on the team.
Eight proved to be a magical number in the RedHawks’ win over the Eagles. In its eighth game of the new year, Miami blocked the ball a season-high eight times and finished with eight steals and eight turnovers.
Miami will need another strong defensive performance against Ohio, the third-highest scorer in the MAC with 1609 points.
The Bobcats are led by senior forward AJ Clayton, who averages 15.5 points and 2.6 3-pointers a game. Clayton sits at No. 13 in the MAC with 279 points.
Ohio features another long-distance threat in redshirt sophomore guard AJ Brown, who follows Clayton with 35 3-pointers. Brown posts a 3-point percentage of .402, good for top 10 in the conference.
The Bobcats jumped to a 3-0 lead at the start of conference play, but they have gone 1-3 since then. Ohio’s 5-3 standing ranks them fourth in the MAC, two spots below the RedHawks.
Miami dropped both matchups to the Bobcats in the 2023-24 season. The RedHawks are 95-120 in the Battle of the Bricks rivalry.
Miami hall-of-famer and former NBA player Wally Szczerbiak will be in attendance at Millett. The doubleheader provides an opportunity for the RedHawks to show off to fans and alumni, as well as take both Battles of the Bricks.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
