For the first time since the 2005-06 season, the Miami University RedHawks men’s basketball team has started 3-0 against Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponents.

The RedHawks (11-4, 3-0 in MAC play) look to continue their winning streak tonight on the road against the Northern Illinois University Huskies (4-11, 0-3 in MAC play).

Miami’s victory against the Western Michigan University Broncos (3-12, 3-0 in MAC play) propelled it to No. 1 in the MAC and placed them at No. 25 in the Mid-Major Top 25 Coaches Poll

The RedHawks are 3-0 against conference opponents for the first time since the 2005-06 season. In those games, redshirt sophomore wing Kam Craft led with 71 points, including 28 against the Ball State University Cardinals (8-7, 2-1 in MAC play).

Craft and junior guard Peter Suder combined for 39 points in the RedHawks’ 91-71 win over the Broncos. Sophomore center Reece Potter and redshirt first-year wing Brant Byers scored 14 points each off the bench.

Potter led the defense with three blocks, while Suder turned the ball over for the RedHawks four times. Suder leads the team with 29 turnovers on the season.

In last year’s matchup, the RedHawks fumbled a 31-30 lead in the first half, ultimately losing 62-59 against the Huskies. Potter led the game with 10 points, but 22 points from Zarique Nutter and 21 from David Coit gave Northern Illinois its second win in MAC play of the season.

This year, the Huskies started out 2-1, including a 105-37 win over Holy Cross College. However, a five-game losing streak characterized Northern Illinois’ 4-8 record before conference play.

The Huskies began 2025 with a second-half loss to the Eastern Michigan University Eagles (7-8, 1-2 in MAC play). Three days later, the Kent State University Golden Flashes (11-4, 2-1 in MAC play) handed them their second defeat 68-50.

In Saturday’s game against the Ohio University Bobcats (9-6, 3-0 in MAC play), despite 25 points from sophomore guard Quentin Jones, the Huskies fell 108-70 and allowed the Bobcats to score the most of any opponent this season.

Jones leads the roster with 237 points as well as 17 steals and 14 blocks. Senior guard James Dent Jr., the team’s leading rebounder (76), trails with 192 points.

Miami’s undefeated run this month has proven to be trouble for MAC opponents. The team leads the conference with 1253 points and has the highest field goal percentage (0.499) and 3-point percentage (0.404).

The RedHawks will look to Craft and Suder’s consistent performances, but their last matchup proved that involvement from the bench can be critical for the team’s success.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in DeKalb, Illinois. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
