Miami University students received more than 100 emails between just after 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. due to what Miami Information Technology Services said was a "misconfiguration on some of the email lists." Between 12:30 p.m. and 12:55 p.m., members of the MUOXFUND email list received more than 105 emails.
Many replies were from students asking to be removed from the list while others sent images and messages to others to stop replying. Some messages included memes or wording such as "I'm transferring bro. This is unreal."
Multiple replies questioned why many people had access to the list, one that includes many Miami emails. In an email to all Oxford emails, Miami IT Services wrote that accounts on the list were not compromised and teams are changing configurations to fix the issue.
Other than a single reply at 4:16 p.m., there has not been a mass email since 12:55 p.m.
