The Miami University RedHawks women’s basketball team (1-1) plays its second home game of the season at 5 p.m. tonight against the Tiffin University Dragons (1-1).
Following a 75-48 victory over Appalachian State University, the RedHawks traveled to the Xavier University Musketeers last weekend. Miami lost 71-66 after a late-game comeback fell short.
The RedHawks entered the third quarter down 44-32, but a 3-pointer from senior forward Katey Richason tied the game at 58-58 with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Richason gave Miami a brief 59-58 lead with a free throw, but the Musketeers stifled a comeback with a 13-7 run to end the game.
Sophomore forward Amber Tretter led the RedHawks with 16 points and 11 rebounds, good for her first double-double of the season. She also scored 13 points with nine rebounds against Appalachian State.
Two additional players scored in the double digits. Graduate student guard Maya Chandler closely followed Tretter with 15 points, and first-year guard Tamar Singer scored 12.
The Dragons started similar to the RedHawks. Their season-opener against the University of Illinois Springfield at home saw four players score nine or more points to contribute to a Dragon victory. They followed with a loss on the road against Purdue University Northwest.
First-year guard Megan Campbell scored 26 points through both games, including a team-leading 16 in her first game along with 10 rebounds.
Sophomore point guard Grace Craig trails Campbell with 24 points. Her 13 points against Purdue University Northwest led the Dragons to victory.
Tiffin shot 16-52 on 3-pointers so far. Junior point guard Mahya Lindesmith made the most with six out of 12 attempts.
Miami has one more attempt but three more 3-pointers made. Singer’s 5-6 performance makes her the most accurate RedHawk from behind the arc.
When these teams last played in 2022, Miami outscored Tiffin in every quarter to take a 80-31 win on New Years Eve. Richason scored 11 points as a sophomore and didn’t miss any field goals or free throws.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Millett Hall. Miami holds an even 1-1 record, but the non-conference slate before the new year shows how the RedHawks will perform once Mid-American Conference play begins.
