The 59th annual Apple Butter Festival took place over the weekend of Oct. 5 and 6. The festival was held at the Doty Family homestead. Families and college students alike enjoyed the sunny weather and fun fall activities. The festival featured an array of vendors, traditional apple butter making and live music.
The festival is put on by the Oxford Museum Association. This group manages several historic sites in the area, including the DeWitt log home, Black Covered Bridge and Doty homestead. All proceeds from apple butter sales and parking admission went back to the museum association. The funds will most likely be used for maintenance and upkeep of the museum association’s historical properties.
Vendors from around the tri-state area came to sell at the Apple Butter Festival. Booths featured jewelry, crocheted goods and pottery. Artisans featured paintings and woodcraft. There was an emphasis on craftsmanship and handmade items.
The Museum Association also hosted tours of the Historic Doty Homestead and Pioneer Barn. Both buildings are filled with artifacts from 19th-century pioneer life.
