Miami University RedHawks soccer tied on the road against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 2-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The back-and-forth started 13 minutes into the game when sophomore forward Neve Renwick gave the Golden Eagles the lead. Shortly after, a pass from senior midfielder Makenna Morisson allowed fifth-year forward Taylor Hamlett to tie the game 1-1 in the 14th minute.

The first half remained scoreless after that, but Hamlett put the ball back in the net off a pass from sophomore forward Katie O’Malley. Hamlett, who previously had two goals and two assists in the first game of the season, finished the game with two goals off two shots.

The RedHawks kept their 2-1 lead going into the 80th minute. However, an assist from junior forward Katie Toney and sophomore forward Ashley Wood allowed sophomore midfielder Cheyenne McCloud to tie the game once more.

Miami had two more shots and a corner kick in the remaining minutes, but was unable to take back an advantage. The RedHawks now sit at 1-0-1, while the Golden Eagles sit at 0-1-1.

Sophomore Dominique Popa goaltended for the RedHawks in her first game of the season. She played 16 games last season and had a 1.03 goals against average. On Sunday, she had three saves.

First-year midfielder Maris Jennings had three shots and one shot on goal in her 70 minutes on the field. More shots on goal came from junior forward Sydney Thompson, sophomore defender Kena Smith and senior midfielder Makenna Morrisson.

The RedHawks once again play on the road against the Indiana State University Sycamores (1-0) later this week. The Sycamores dominated in their first game of the season in a 10-0 shutout against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

The two faced each other last August in a scoreless draw. The RedHawks had 17 shots and four shots on goal compared to the Sycamores’ four shots and one shot on goal, but neither team found the back of the net.

Historically, Miami holds the lead in this matchup with two wins and one tie. Those two wins occurred in 2011 and 2012.

The RedHawks play on Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. in Terre Haute, Indiana.
