Butler County’s risk level for COVID-19 has downgraded to low risk, according to an email from Miami University’s COVID response team on Friday, Sept. 23.
The email also notified the Miami community that the campus COVID-19 outbreak is being monitored. The Butler County General Health District (BCGHD) predicts the outbreak will be officially over in early October. Two incubation periods, or 28 days, will allow BCGHD to confirm the decrease in cases is not caused by underreporting.
An Aug. 26 email from the response team said there were 66 cases of COVID-19 on campus. The email detailing the outbreak, from Sept. 1, said 194 students had tested positive for COVID-19.
“We are also pleased to report that COVID-19 cases on campus have greatly decreased over the past few weeks,” the Sept. 23 email read.
During the low-risk level, the CDC recommends staying up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations and testing when symptoms arise. Unlike previous emails, this week’s update made no mention of masks.
