The Miami University football team will be headed to Frisco, TX to play in its first bowl game since 2019.

The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy tweeted Sunday that the RedHawks will be playing in the Frisco Football Classic on Thursday, Dec. 23 against the University of North Texas.

The time of the game will be announced at a later time.

The Frisco Texas Classic was added to the bowl calendar earlier this week after the NCAA approved a waiver for the game on Dec. 3. The waiver enabled all 84 bowl-eligible teams to play in a postseason contest.

Miami is coming off a 48-47 overtime loss against the Kent State Golden Flashes. The loss dropped the team’s record to 6-6, with a 5-3 record against Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponents.

The last bowl game the RedHawks played in was the Lending Tree Bowl on Jan. 6, 2020, when the team lost to the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, 27-17. Miami’s last bowl win was on Jan. 6, 2011, when the the RedHawks defeated Middle Tennessee State 35-21.

Miami’s opponent, the North Texas Mean Green, had an identical record as the RedHawks with a 6-6 overall mark and a 5-3 record in conference play.
