Miami students reach 92% vaccination rate

As of Oct. 27, 92% of Miami University students at the Oxford campus have received at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to an email from Miami’s COVID Response Team.

Vaccination rates for regional students and Miami employees are 78% and 80%, respectively.

The university is still processing exemption requests, but less than 10% of all students and employees requested exemptions.

According to Miami’s COVID dashboard, the university currently has 15 active COVID cases for students and eight for employees. Positive testing rates for surveillance testing of unvaccinated students remain between 0% to 0.5%.

In a press release, Jayne Brownell, vice president for Student Life, expressed gratitude to the Miami community for its diligence in combating the spread of COVID-19.

“Vaccination continues to be our best tool in the fight against COVID-19, and we are seeing the benefits at Miami,” Brownell wrote. “Miami’s COVID-19 rates remain low, and we have not seen any serious outbreaks among students, faculty or staff.”

Students and employees must receive their second dose of the vaccine by Nov. 22 to remain in compliance with Miami’s vaccination requirements.

Students who do not comply with these requirements risk having holds placed on their accounts that, if not resolved, will prevent them from registering for spring classes.
