Two games left, two wins?

In their previous two games, the Miami RedHawks are 1-1. 

The loss was against the Akron Zips, seeded just above Miami with a record of 6-13. 

In that game, the RedHawks struggled to find a rhythm. They were down 41-28 at the half and  lost 84-63. 

The loss was quickly overshadowed by Miami’s recent win against Kent State Saturday afternoon. The Golden Flashes, who sit fourth overall in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), are seeded significantly higher than Miami. 

Regardless, the RedHawks kept their composure. A three-point buzzer-beater by sophomore guard Peyton Scott secured the 61-58 win on Senior Day. 

Scott’s buzzer-beater was No. 5 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays the next morning.

Although Scott’s streak of scoring 30 or more points per game was snapped three matches ago, her momentum on the court remains. Against Kent State, she almost finished with a triple-double, which would’ve made her the second player in Miami women’s basketball history to do so. 

Senior forward Kelly McLaughlin has also been prominent on the court. Just three games ago against Ball State, she finished the game as the leading scorer with 25 points. 

With two games left in the season, Miami could improve its record to 6-18 if it wins back-to back games. No matter the outcome, the RedHawks will stay in last place in the MAC. 

The team’s next game is against Buffalo this Wednesday. 

In their last matchup on Jan. 2, Buffalo defeated Miami 75-67 at Millett Hall. 

Scott ended the game with 26 points, which, at the time, was two short of her career high. Freshman center Jada Duckett and redshirt sophomore Tihanna Fulton both finished with four rebounds, formerly their career highs as well.

Players to Watch 

Scott, who had a career-high in rebounds against Kent State, is one to look out for, especially if she goes for another near-triple double. 

McLaughlin is on a hot streak right now, scoring in double-digits for five straight games. She has scored 250 points so far this season, which is more than her first three years combined.
