Perkins-Rossi ticket wins student body president election

Miami University elected Jaylen Perkins and Dante Rossi as its next student body president and vice president for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Over 4,000 votes were cast in the runoff election, approximately 53% of which went to the Perkins-Rossi ticket. The election had the largest voter turnout since 2013.

Perkins and Rossi will lead Associated Student Government (ASG)'s executive cabinet next year. Neither of the two have ever served in ASG before.

Perkins is the president of the Black Student Action Association and was a leader in the Black Action Movement (BAM) 2.0. Rossi is president of the Honors Student Advisory Board.

Both students are members of fraternities on campus, and they prioritized changing the perception of Greek life as a pillar of their campaign. They plan to promote philanthropy and integrity as key aspects for the Greek system to focus on.

Their campaign also focused on diversity and changing the cultural climate on campus. They plan to create and promote more diversity events and workshops on campus, particularly for first-year students.

"I'm definitely looking forward to keeping our word: working with executive cabinet, changing the culture of ASG and focusing on love and honor," Perkins said.

The Perkins-Rossi ticket defeated Gaby Meissner, who served in ASG for three years, and her running mate, Hunter Meacham, in the runoff election.
