Miami University’s Institute for Food is piloting something exciting for Fall 2018. They are piloting a student community supported agriculture program (CSA), and you have the chance to be a part of it! By signing up for this program, student subscribers can take home a selection of fresh, seasonal and sustainably-sourced vegetables that were grown on the Miami University’s Institute for Food farm in Oxford for 12 weeks during the fall semester. You can choose four servings of vegetables from the Institute for Food’s farm per week from Sept. 13 through Nov. 29. You will be able to pick the vegetables up on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. under the pavilion at Cook Field. This great deal costs only $100, and you can sign up and pay at the IES office in Shideler Hall.
ACT FAST because there are only 25 spots available!
The student CSA is built to support a student lifestyle by providing enough vegetables for students to eat a couple of meals a week with. Although there may be vegetables to choose from that you may not have heard of, we encourage you to give them a try. But, you can always stick to the staples like carrots, peppers, potatoes, onions, etc. depending on what is available that week. This is a great opportunity for all students: on-campus students in dorms can take a break from dining hall food, and off-campus students in houses and apartments can now grab their dinner ingredients while on campus instead of taking an extra trip to the grocery store.
As an institute, their mission is to foster healthy food, healthy eating, healthy communities and a healthy planet. They also want to engage the Miami University community in food, health and sustainable agriculture initiatives and issues. We encourage you to join their mission and partake in healthy eating all while supporting local sustainability by participating in this CSA.
