Hall Auditorium will soon resonate with the sounds of masterfully composed music. As a part of the Performing Arts Series, Louis Langree and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will be performing at 7:30 p.m on Friday. This marks the first time in 20 years that the CSO will perform at Miami.
"It is something unusual that we have, relatively near to Oxford, one of the best orchestras in the world," said Ricardo Averbach, conductor of Miami's Symphony Orchestra. "The Cincinnati Orchestra is a huge tradition, but we are simply not used to listening to it. It is so unique to have an incredible orchestra with a wonderful conductor coming to our house."
This will also be the first time the orchestra plays in Hall Auditorium. Director of the Performing Arts Series, Patti Liberatore, believes this will provide an immersive and intimate experience.
"Students will get their hair blown back because that amazing orchestra and amazing atmosphere of Hall Auditorium is a visceral experience," she said. "It is a world class orchestra -- they were performing before crowds of 3,000 people. It is a scale that is different and will provide a unique opportunity."
The CSO will be performing four pieces. The Performing Arts Series described the show as "an evening of French delights with an American flair." Pieces include the "Mother Goose Suite" by Maurice Ravel and "The Unanswered Question" by Charles Ives.
The main piece is "Symphony No. 3, 78" by Camille Saint-Saens, a piece known for its use of the organ, an instrument that Hall Auditorium does not have.
"This piece is incredibly beautiful," Averbach said. "Everything is great. I am extremely curious to see how they will perform this at Miami."
The orchestra will also perform "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin.
Tickets cost $26 for adults, $25 for seniors and $13 for students/youth. They can be purchased online or at the Home Box Office for half price. Tickets may still be available at the door.
