In the coming week, Miami is bringing in some really interesting environmental speakers. Here's an overview, because you aren't going to want to miss these!
Friday, November 11: "Surface water and shallow groundwater impacts from oil and gas development"
- This Friday at 4:00 p.m. in Room 1 Shideler, the Department of Geology and Environmental Earth Science is hosting Dr. Nat Warner from Penn State to talk about the impacts from hydraulic fracturing. Dr. Warner is a former IES Master's student at Miami and has since become one of the leading researchers on the topic of potential water quality impacts from enhanced oil and gas extraction (including fracking). Refreshments will be served.
Monday, November 14: "Policy: Why It Matters To All Of Us"
- Kevin Samy, Miami Alum and speechwriter with the Obama Administration, will be giving a university-wide keynote talk on why policy impacts everyone this Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Bachelor 101. Samy's career has had a focus on environmental policy, which will likely be a feature of his speech. He will also be holding a panel discussion earlier in the day on Monday, Nov. 14 from 2;45-3:45 in Harrison 111 focused specifically on environmental policy. Come with questions and topics of discussion!
Monday, November 14: "Trees in Trouble - Saving America's Urban Forests"
- Also this coming Monday, Audobon Miami Valley (our local chapter of the National Audobon Society) will be screening the film "Trees in Trouble - Saving America's Urban Forests" at 7:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room of the Lebanon Citizens National Bank building at 30 West Park Place, Oxford, OH. Following the film will be a conversation with the filmmaker, Cincinnati's Andre Torrice. The program is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. You can learn more about the film here.
