In its first road game of the season, the Miami University women's basketball team defeated Valparaiso University 75-72. The 'Hawks improve to 4-2, while the Crusaders fall to 0-5.
All 12 players on the roster saw action, and 10 added points to the scoreboard.
"Well, certainly, we want to be a balanced team. We want to have opportunities to score for many people," head coach Cleve Wright said. Our offense is built to be balanced. I think we have scorers in a lot of different positions."
Sophomore guard Baleigh Reid led the team with 18 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Molly McDonagh reached a career-high of 16 points and was a key factor in holding off Valparaiso's three-point attempts in the final thirty seconds of the game.
Freshman forward Kristen Levering finished with nine points, while freshman guard Leah Purvis totaled eight.
As a team, the RedHawks shot 46.6 percent (27-for-58) from the field and held the Crusaders to a 36.8 percent (21-for-57) shooting.
Miami also finished with a season-low of nine turnovers.
MU returns home for the final time in the non-conference season Saturday to host Oakland University (4-2).
Senior forward Olivia Nash leads the Golden Grizzlies with an average of 15 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
The last time the two teams met was last year on Nov. 28, when Oakland beat Miami 65-51.
Tipoff is 2 p.m. Saturday in Millett Hall.
