Miami University announced that it will host Paralympic medalist and acclaimed author Bonnie St. John at this spring's commencement ceremonies.
St. John became the first African American to win an Olympic or Paralympic medal in ski racing in 1984, at the age of 20, despite having lost her knee at age 5.
After graduating from Harvard University, St. John worked under the Clinton administration, and has since been honored by Presidents George W. Bush and Obama.
St. John is the author of six books, covering themes of success, family, faith and overcoming obstacles. Her latest book, a No. 1 best-seller entitled "How Great Women Lead" and co-written by her teenage daughter, examines the lives and leadership of women like Hillary Clinton and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
St. John is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Yager Stadium.
