This morning, OPD officers found two dead in a third floor room of building eight at the Level 27 apartment complex.
The victims, a man and a woman, appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. The woman was a Miami University student and the man is believed to have been her acquaintance.
Previous reporting indicated OPD suspected a murder-suicide, however Sergeant Jon Varley did not confirm this.
He did say, though, that the department is not looking for suspects and there is no evidence to suggest there is an ongoing threat.
At 8:45 this morning, a fire alarm called officers to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered that smoke from a gunshot, not a fire, had triggered the fire alarm.
The victims were in the female's room with the door locked when the officers arrived. OPD found a handgun with the bodies.
Varley said the department does not suspect drug or alcohol use.
The bodies have been identified and the victims' names will be released tomorrow.
"This is a terrible tragedy," President David Hodge said in a Miami press release. "Our hearts go out to the families and friends. It is an incredibly painful and sad time for Miami."
Level 27 management declined comment.
