African Student Union to host its first African Politics Colloquium tonight

Miami University's African Student Union will host its first African Politics Colloquium 5 p.m. today in the Armstrong Student Center pavilion. The event will feature guest speaker The Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal to the United States, His Excellency Cheikh Niang.

The colloquium is meant to foster a forum in which African politics and its role in world government can be discussed. President of the African Student Union senior Fatimata Ndiaye welcomes all students to the event, and stresses its importance in a time where international relations are often underestimated or misunderstood.

"The annual African Politics Colloquium is an event that seeks to shed a light and provide a forum of discussion on the political issues of Africa, an often misunderstood If not overlooked part of the continent's affairs," she said.

Ndiaye added the event will additionally nurture understanding about African culture and values.

The guest speaker, Niang, has served as the Republic of Senegal's Ambassador to the United States for two years. His role in the event will to facilitate discussion, answer questions and provide insight into African politics and culture.

"The Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal to the Unite States will be this year's distinguished guest speaker," Ndiaye said. "He will be discussing Africa's political economic role in the world today and its future prospects."

The event is free and open to the public.
