Tech Tip: Security awareness events help prevent electronic identity theft

Randy Hollowell, Senior Communications & Web Coordinator, IT Services

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month and Miami's IT Services is celebrating in Oxford, Hamilton and Middletown with a variety of events designed to highlight the importance of keeping your personal information, as well as Miami's, safe and secure. All Oxford events will take place in Multipurpose Rooms B-C in the Shriver Center.

The highlight of the October 25 Oxford event is the keynote address "The Fourth Amendment in Cyberspace" presented by Susan Brenner, NCR Distinguished Professor of Law and Technology at the University of Dayton School of Law.  The presentation will focus on the difficult privacy and technology issues courts are currently dealing with.  This presentation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

As part of the event there will be an information booth in the Haines Food Court where students, faculty and staff can stop by and pick up security information and meet with IT Services Staff. The booth will be available from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Other Oxford presentations include an Information Security Panel Discussion at 9:00 am, Facebook Privacy Issues at 1:30 pm, PCI annual training at 2:30 pm, and a Network Attack Demo at 3:30 pm.

Besides events in Oxford, presentations will also take place in Hamilton on October 26 and Middletown on October 27. Visit www.muohio.edu/secureit for more information and to view the complete schedule.
