We offer both paid and non-paid positions for writers, photographers and page designers, and are always looking for new ways to get people involved. Research, report and create written and/or audio content for the News, Culture, Sports, Entertainment, Travel, Science and/or Travel sections. Reporters will write once a week, bi-weekly or monthly. Those with strong writing and communication skills should apply.
Shoot photos and/or videos for weekly print editions or publication online. TMS photographers must use their own cameras, DSLR preferred. Video equipment is available for TMS issue through Miami’s Media, Journalism and Film department. Photographers and videographers receive assignments corresponding to articles and may pursue photo stories and video projects independent of written content.
Design and maintain the Student’s weekly print publication and/or website. Designers may work exclusively with print, only online content or contribute to both platforms. Coding experience and/or InDesign experience preferred.
Proofread and edit the Student’s weekly print edition and/or online-only written content for spelling, grammar and AP style errors. Print copy editors work on Monday evenings starting at 5 p.m. Online copy editors may work on an as-needed basis. Experience with AP style preferred, but not required.
Report, research and write bi-weekly or monthly columns for the Student’s Opinion section. Though they express the writer’s opinion, columns must be well-researched and timely. Previous experience writing for The Miami Student is preferred, and students must be sophomores or older to apply. Faculty members and graduate students may also apply to be columnists.
Sell advertisements, develop and manage relationships with clients and help manage the Student’s annual budget. Create, distribute and manage marketing materials and events for the publication and promote TMS on campus, in Oxford and beyond.
