Field Hockey clinches MAC Tourney berth

With a 3-0 win over Mid-American Conference opponent Missouri State University Friday, the Miami University field hockey team clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament.

The RedHawks (6-11, 3-2 MAC) also picked up a 6-1 win over UC Davis Sunday in the 'Hawks final home game of the season.

Miami sophomore goalie Alysa Xavier faced only one shot against Missouri State (3-14, 0-5 MAC), en route to her second shutout of the season.

The Miami University women's field hockey team captured a 3-0 win over Missouri State (3-14, 0-5 MAC) and a 6-1 victory over UC Davis (4-12).

The RedHawks struck early against the Bears, with senior back Ali Froede notching a goal 15:05 into the game. Fellow senior back added a goal less than eight minutes later. Sophomore midfielder/forward Geagy Pritchard finished the scoring by putting home a rebound from senior midfielder/forward Valentina Neira.

The RedHawks game against UC Davis (4-12) also marked senior day for Froede, Regan, Gabby Goldach, Valentina Neira and Christina Heston.

The Hawks' scored six goals against UC Davis, their second highest output of the season, trailing only a 10-1 victory over Appalachian State University.

"I think something we've had trouble with in the past is scoring," Goldach said. "It feels really good to get six goals."

Senior midfielder/forward Valentina Neira netted her second hat trick of the season and an assist to help lead the RedHawks.

Senior goaltender Christina Heston played her second game of the season and nabbed her second win.

The three other RedHawks who found the back of the net were Froede, junior midfielder Bea Dechant and freshman forward Henni Otten.

The RedHawks next game is against Ball State 1 p.m. Saturday (5-10, 1-4 MAC) in Muncie, Indiana.
