WMUB to change format, broadcast in HD

WMUB, an NPR affiliate station licensed by Miami University, will change to a High Definition format August 3. It will operate as a full-time news and information station. Chair of the journalism department, Richard Campbell suggested the change in a report calling for more commitment to public service.

Programming schedules will be changed with "The Diane Rehm Show" on at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. weekdays and "Talk of the Nation" at 2 p.m. and midnight. "World Service," a BBC broadcast will air from 10 p.m. to midnight.

"Mama Jazz" will no longer be broadcast from the station, but will be available on an HD stream at www.wmub.org, as well as BBC's "World Service," which will stream 24 hours a day.

Miami University Art Student Recognized With International Award

Samantha Doan, a senior art major at Miami University, will be in a New Jersey exhibition, printed catalog and an international arts magazine. She is one of 12 students selected for this honor. Doan is the recipient of the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center, where her work will be displayed from October 11-April 26.

According to Miami University, at least 401 students were nominated by faculty at more than 162 college and university art departments worldwide.

Miami visiting assistant professor of art, Sara Young, nominated the gifted Samantha Doan for the award. Besides the exhibition, Samantha's work can be seen in the October 2008 Sculpture magazine and a fall/winter exhibition catalogue.

Grant Helps Create Women's Media Funds Partnership Lisa Mclaughlin is the co-recipient of a $30,000 grant from the Social Research Council (SRC) to solve the funding problems for US women's media organizations. With the grant money, Mclaughlin and Susan Feiner of the University of Southern Maine will establish the Women's Media Equity Collaborative (WMEC).

The Women's Media Equity Collaborative will be a research and outreach program used to recognize women's media organizations and develop partnerships to increase fundraising, production, distribution, and marketing efforts.

Ariel Doughtery, the co-founder of Women Make Movies, National Radio Project (NRP), and Chica Luna Productions, is also included in the partnership. The SSRC sponsored Necessary Knowledge for a Public Sphere Program offered the prestigious grant through funds from the Ford Foundation.
