The Miami University men's golf team is back in action this week for the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Last weekend, the RedHawks placed sixth out of 17 teams at the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana with a combined score of 873, six strokes out third place.

Freshmen Patrick Flavin was MU's lowest scorer for the fourth straight time. His combined score of 214 put him in 11th place overall. Sophomore Greg Conrad shot a 67 in the second round, which tied for second for the lowest individual round of the tournament. His 219 overall score was the second lowest score for Miami.

Though several different golfers contribute to the Red and White's success in each tournament, Flavin is the lowest scorer in every tournament. Flavin finished second overall at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate March 24.

The RedHawks look to continue their streak of low scores and reach a first place finish. Though they haven't won a tournament this year, they have placed seventh or better in fields of 30-plus teams in all four tournaments this year. Miami's highest finish was second place at the Colleton River Collegiate March 10.

As they head to West Lafayette, the RedHawks seek leadership from Flavin and the upper classmen. Head coach Zac Zedrick has preached all year that in order to do well, his team must only concern themselves with what they can control.

"We need to trust our preparation and the work we put in at home," Zedrick said. "It's really kind of about just focusing on yourself out there, doing your job and taking care of business and just trusting that that is going to give us the best chance to win."

Rain and thunderstorms spot this weekend's weather forecast, so the golfer must make adjustments in order to win.

Play begins Saturday morning and continues through Sunday.
