Miami community reflects on Yearwood’s retirement

By Angela Hatcher, News Editor This past fall, Ifeolu Claytor was in his political science class, Supreme Court Decisions, waiting for his favorite professor to show up. He received a text from one of his friends saying Mr. Yearwood, the director of the Office of Diversity Affairs, wanted to see him. He asked why. His friend told him that his professor, Augustus Jones, had passed away. Claytor went to a meeting that he had with Yearwood, everyone saying a couple words about Professor Jones. Petite ponies bring joy to students during campus visit

By Angela Hatcher, Senior Staff Writer At 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, Miami University students congregated around the Armstrong Student Center’s patio. “Oohs” and “Awws” rippled  through the crowd. Everyone had a camera or cell phone ready. “I can’t even handle the cuteness,” someone in the crowd said. “I’m literally dying,” her friend replied. The crowd buzzed with excitement. Former student to be arraigned today

By Angela Hatcher, Senior Staff Writer Jordan Benge, a 20-year-old former Miami University student and MiTech employee, is facing criminal charges for theft, voyeurism and drug trafficking. The thefts occurred between April 15 and July 23, 2015, after the MiTech department noticed missing computers. Benge was arrested on Oct. 22. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court today. Claire Wagner, director of university news and communications, said that although this was a major crime, it did not pose a safety risk to students and therefore was not reported on information bulletins.
