As the moon covered the sun on Monday, students, community members and visitors cheered at the sky, reveling in this perplexing event. The last total solar eclipse that could be viewed in Ohio was in 1806, and North America won’t be in “the path of totality” again for another 20 years, with Ohio having to wait until 2099.
Brick Street, one of Oxford’s Uptown bars, hosted an event to celebrate Monday’s total solar eclipse that spanned from Northern Mexico to Eastern Canada. Oxford laid directly under the eclipse’s path of totality, with the moon fully covering the sun from 3:08 to 3:11 p.m.
The last total solar eclipse in Ohio took place in 1806, making the April 8 eclipse a once-in-a-lifetime historic event. Oxford was filled with a variety of festivities for the occasion, including a celebration just outside of King Library.
The celebration began with the “Total Eclipse of the Parks” event Uptown from 1 to 5 p.m. with a large crowd of people gathering to witness Oxford’s ideal viewing spot for the celestial event.
Ramadan Mubarak means “Blessed Ramadan.” It’s a month of daily fasting for Muslims all around the world, including many at Miami University. Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, so it shifts 10 days earlier each year. This year, Ramadan started on March 11 and ends April 10.
You are not a trailblazer for taking desire paths. You are not staging a silent rebellion. Rather, these pathways, more strongly than sidewalks, represent the absence of freedom from industrial control.
